Situated at the bustling crossing of Park Street and Mullick Bazar, Shiraz Golden Restaurant stands as a historic culinary landmark in Kolkata. Celebrating over 75 years of service, this establishment behind the Neuro Science Hospital remains a go-to destination for lovers of authentic Awadhi cuisine, offering a convenient stop for families in the Beniapukur area.
The ambiance inside creates a welcoming atmosphere suitable for fine dining. The “AC Hall” features warm, modern lighting and comfortable booth seating, adorned with murals that pay homage to the restaurant’s rich culinary heritage. It is a clean and pleasant space where families can relax away from the city noise.
The food quality lives up to its legendary reputation. I tried their
Mutton Qorma Awadhi Style, which was absolutely delicious, featuring a rich, thick gravy that was perfectly spiced. It paired wonderfully with their breads, the soft, thin Roomali Roti and the fluffy, golden-brown Tandoori Roti were both freshly made and excellent.
To balance the richness of the main course, the meal was accompanied by a classic Onion Salad. The fresh, crisp onion rings topped with green chilies added a necessary zest and crunch, elevating the overall flavor profile of the spicy masala dish.
However, there is a notable drawback regarding value. Despite the exquisite taste, the portion sizes are surprisingly small. The quantity served is very limited; a single portion barely suffices for two bites, meaning you must order multiple rounds to feel satisfied. While the taste is royal, the quantity leaves you wanting more.
