It was my last day in Shanghai staying at this beautiful hostel The Phoenix where during one of the conversations, the caretaker mentioned about the water village. Since I had already been to Venice-Italy, the thought of revisiting the place in a different form completely excited me and I set out on the 1.5-hour metro ride (costing 9 Yuan one side from People Square) to reach this amazing place.
Zhujiajiao Water Town is a typical and ancient water town in Qingpu District, south of the Yangtze River, which has almost 1,700 years of history. Zhujiajiao, also called “The Venice of Shanghai”, features lovely waterways, curved rock bridges, old streets cemented with stone, and over 10,000 buildings dating back to the 1300s. The ferry ride through the small alleys in the lovely canals and waterways passing through the picturesque bridges and ancient buildings costs just 100 Yuan per person on a sharing ride of 5 people for about 30min.I wanted to share this to show how you can find replicas of popular places in your own countries in their rawest forms having different histories yet being structurally similar. Not being able to visit another country shouldn’t hinder anybody’s love for travel to that place.
