A place to stay forever

I’ve been living in my city for more than 20 years, and each year during the summer my town becomes literally a touristic area, due to its strategic position near the sea, on the Calabrian West Coast. It involves lots of people from different cultures and countries, who enjoy staying on the beach all day long.

Italian tradition is also linked to nightlife, parties and movement around cities, in which tourists usually go to have the time of their life. Here in my city we have lots of attractions for everyone from young to middle aged people. For instance, the youngest prefer spending their time dancing in a disco called Acadie Club until 4 or 5 a.m. and waiting for the sun to rise.

Talking about food, tourists could eat some traditional plates such as all types of fish and above all a delicious pizza. The majority of Scalea’s traditional plate are based on fish.

Not only I have the privilege of living near the sea, but also I am surrounded by an enormous quantity of green areas, where a foreigner can breathe the purest air of nature and feel like the luckiest person on this earth.

Last but not least, I want to spend some words for the marvellous rural monuments here in my zone, where history has played its part. The most famous monument is also known as the symbol of Scalea, called Torre Talao, a majestic tower situated near the sea and built by locals, under the control of the Kingdom of Naples in 1563. It is only one of the several towers built along the coast. Their function was to protect the villages from pirate attacks. Nowadays this monument is still accessible and it has become a property of the municipality, which organizes activities with local guides who take people on a tour either in the upper part of the town where the ruins lie, or in the low modern area.

All I want to say here is how I am proud of my roots, and how I am trying to spread and share with you guys the beauty of my place, and the importance of taking care of it, in a world where it doesn’t matter if you spoil or neglect our environment.
