A picturesque ferry ride across the Sarawak river

Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia, and is located on the island of Borneo. Kuching where we are visiting is about 2 hour flight from Kuala Lumpur. One of the best places to visit and hang out in Kuching is the Kuching Waterfront (https://goo.gl/maps/7TukdxpQepyrFYc97 ). However, there are also many places to see on the opposite side of the river. Hence today’s trip of a ferry ride across the river.

One of the many ferry pickup jetty one the south side of the Sarawak river is here at the Boyan-Gersik jetty (https://goo.gl/maps/gSKakzwmDTkRA1WX7 ), right near the heart of Kuching. It’s a small ferry that only costs RM 1 per way ride. That’s under USD 0.25

[Photo below] - As we stepped into the small ferry, we were greeted with nice views of the river.

[Photo below] - Our ferryman who navigated the ferry across the river. It’s a diesel motor ferry, and the paddles are just used for steering the boat.

[Photo below] - From nearby as we reached the opposite side. the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly building (https://g.page/DUNSarawak?share ) is a beautiful sight.

[Photo below] - And looking back to the other side. A view of the busy city of Kuching.

[Photo below] - We landed at the Fort Margherita jetty (https://goo.gl/maps/pq1fzKGUHvg7L5xL8 ) and there is a small water cascade (https://goo.gl/maps/qGmVp3dm6t7D6mxe7 ) walk to where we want to go.

[Photo below] - As we climbed up the stairs towards Fort Margherita, we were greeted by this giant stainless steel Rhinoceros Hornbill or Burung Kenyalang, which is the official bird and mascot for Sarawak.

[Photo below] - Our journey continues as we walked up the foot path towards Fort Margherita (https://goo.gl/maps/r6erBQt6GN1mv1eYA ). That will be for our next post.

So much to discover along the Sarawak river. The boat ride was interesting, and the place we will be visiting, Fort Margherita will be even more interesting. Coming up on the next post.
