A picturesque evening stroll around the Independence Square of Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

During this time of movement control in Malaysia, just as with many other parts of the world, most of us try not to wander out unnecessarily. Less to catch something undesired. This evening after some work, I was able to spend a bit of time wandering around the Independence Square (https://g.page/dataran-merdeka-kuala-lumpur?share )area of Kuala Lumpur, after some many months. Took some shots along the walk (yes, I was wearing a face mask all the time).

Photo below: A walk along the Dataran Merdeka bridge (https://goo.gl/maps/4vbqB4hd7VfQkDLQ8 ) which connects Masjid Jamek area to Independence Square. A peaceful flowing river, meandering around the old buildings. The old building on the right is the Sultan Abdul Samad Building (https://goo.gl/maps/ZsZd6geX2UmYYeez9 )

Photo below: The iconic and very functional Dataran Merdeka bridge (https://goo.gl/maps/4vbqB4hd7VfQkDLQ8 ) cladded with glass and stainless steel.

Photo below: A quick walk to around the Masjid Jamek fountain area, with the beautiful palm trees (https://goo.gl/maps/k1WnuBykyrCnEsMh8 )

Photo below: And then a slow stroll along the Sultan Abdul Samad Building (https://goo.gl/maps/z5eR5NHA5sDx91gF9 ). Enjoying the unique architecture and the strong breeze blowing today. See all the flags flapping strongly.

Photo below: The new meets the old. The Sultan Abdul Samad Building (https://goo.gl/maps/z5eR5NHA5sDx91gF9 ) was the tallest building built when Kuala Lumpur was set up in the late 1800s. And just behind it, the building in construction, the PNB 118 (https://goo.gl/maps/TJkYN5rp16kqcuEQ6 ), which is set to the new tallest building in Kuala Lumpur (and the 2nd tallest in the world) when it completes in 2021, at a height of 644m and 118 stories.

Photo below: As the evening became late, the sky turned dark ethereal blue. And the lights along the river of life lights up (https://goo.gl/maps/kcG3SxJ4JQovUtS9A )

Photo below: My final photo before the night overtakes the evening, back at the same place as the same photo of the back of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building (https://goo.gl/maps/z5eR5NHA5sDx91gF9 ).

Definitely a place to come in the evening for the most beautiful picturesque photo capture place in town.

Hello @StephenAbraham ,

Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos with us.

I love the mix between old and modern architecture and the contrast that it creates!

Is it possible to visit some parts of the Sultan’s building?

@BorrisS that unique building, which looks like a Sultan’s palace, or even reminds me of Aladdin, :grinning: … was the administrative building of the British government during the British occupation. It used to be the Malaysia Supreme Court, but now it’s not really used. We can only visit the outside at the moment, until they probably refurbish the building for some other historical purpose.

Thank you for the details @StephenAbraham .

It’s very sad that one cannot visit the building from the inside, I’m sure that the interior is amazing as well!

Many similar buildings around the world have been turned into museums.

Hi @StephenAbraham ,

amazing pictures, I didn’t know about this photographic part of the city.

When I have been to Kuala Lumpur time ago I only have been around the KLCC Park since my hotel was nearby, and one night some local colleagues invited me for few drinks in full of bars Changkat Bukit Bintang (I think it was there because I remember the Whisky Bar :yum: ).

Thank you for sharing your walk pictures.
