I was seven years old when I first found out that I love food. In that dingy kitchen where the oven does not work and the beater would heat up after five minutes of continuous use., I baked my first cake with my aunt. I still remember cracking eggs on the side of the bowl, my aunt correcting me to fold in the sugar only clockwise, lightly tapping the cake pan to make air bubbles escape, hanging a damp cloth in front of the oven to reduce the heat loss, licking the mixing bowl clean and the smell of freshly baked cake.
Fast forward 20 years later, I am a grown-up man with a full-time job, I still cook food for my friends and myself.
But I want to share my passion with the world. How do I do that? Should I open a restaurant?
There must be a cost-effective way to share my love of food with everyone in the world that does not involve a truckload of investment.
I am also a fan of new gadgets (if I may call myself, a technophile). Keeping up with the new technology, trying the latest phone, and simply keeping abreast of the technology.
However, not everything is perfect. I am terrible at taking pictures. While I have the best gadget and I am still learning to take better pictures, my pictures are still average.
When Google re-launched Local Guides in 2017, I started uploading my pictures (mostly food) to Google Maps. Very quickly I realized, that people really appreciate a simple picture of food without fancy lighting and a ton of editing; it gives them a true picture of what they are about to experience.
I love food and eat out a lot. I started adding honest and straightforward reviews with simple food pictures. I try to pair a picture with just 150 words (let’s all agree that we have short attention spans) to give a brief synopsis of the place. My photos and reviews have been viewed thousands of times.
Sharing food photos on Google Local Guides is my way of sharing my love of food and giving back. What is yours?
