A Nature Park On Bonny Island-Place on your bucket list.

My travels are in the South South of Nigeria these days and I have promised here on connect to write from time to time on places and things of interest. I had a very lovely boat ride to Bonny Island some weeks ago and indeed there are places and things of interest I’ll like to share with you all. The first of them is this Finima nature park It really was a nature park !!! Like I wrote in my Review of the place It’s quite a place to be, so beautiful so green so natural. I loved every moment I spent breathing and inhaling the fresh air in the natural atmosphere. I’ll love to be able to host some local guides here for a meet up if possible. If you love nature, this is the place to visit or at least to have on your bucket list. I still have in mind to re-visit this place soon. Aside been a nature park It’s also like a game reserve or a zoo.

The first thing I saw that made me fell in love with this place is the peacocks. There were several of them with their beautiful feathers roaming just wildly around, can you believe that !!! It was a sight to behold. The next were the cute monkeys. They don’t come too close, but close enough to see anyway. What other animal,I saw a little water monitor lizard creeping quietly out of the water. There were other very beautiful birds around. I learnt they belong particularly to the Island. It was nature in it’s raw preserved beauty. Aside the animals, there were the games of all kinds you can play. They have Chess, ludo game, the draft etc. Like I wrote on one of my lists on the maps,if you like relaxation this is one of the places you can find that. The boat ride on the lake, yes ! The post is not done till I have that in. I haven’t tried it out, that’s why another planned trip is very necessary and soon it will be. There are other places in the park I haven’t explored fully which I plan to explore on my next visit.

Now let’s talk about other matters and issues as related to local guides and visitors.

  • Entry fee.: You can’t believe what is coming next on this, because it’s absolutely free for all. No gate fee, no fare, just register at the receptionist at the gate and in you go. This is courtesy the NLNG crew on the Island.
  • Accessibility :wheelchair: . I can’t really say it’s accessible or a place for people with special needs, that’s a pity really.
  • Location: you can get to the Island itself only by boat for now. The road from Port Harcourt city to Bonny Island is still under construction. When on the Island its quite easy to locate the park by public taxis. It’s well marked on the maps, you can also get directions easily from the natives.
  • If you plan to have a boat ride, there are rules and regulations governing that. It’s clearly and bodly written there for all. I haven’t been on that ride,so I can’t tell you much. We’ll save that for next visit.
  • Covid19 protocols: The use of face mask is compulsory on the tour so take note if you ever visit.

One last thing of great interest in this place is the remains of a great whale preserved here in the park. It’s a huge monster of a thing washed ashore. We’ll save that for another post when I have all the information correct and complete. You’ll love to see the post, look out for it please.

Hope you’ll visit Nigeria soon, and if you do this place will interest you. It’s a place to be. I’ll love to organise a meet up here someday if possible. Thank you for reading.

Cheers

Thanks for sharing this nice post @SholaIB Your photo quality has improved a lot. Nice. I am really sorry to hear that this beautiful park does not have accessibility features. Except this, this is a very nice park indeed.

Nothing beats the joy of traveling into nature and experiencing the freshness of the air in the open.

Your descriptions and photos tempt me to definitely visit Nigeria in the near future.

So I am carefully noting down all places you visited

The sight of peacocks is a delight and I too have experienced this last year in the wild.

Did you also take those boats to reach the island?

Free entry to really a amazing place is something that I haven’t come across in ages so that was perhaps the icing on the cake :+1:

@AdamGT would love this Chess thing very much. The park has many things to offer indeed @SholaIB

Well @Sophia_Cambodia

Adam has to come to Nigeria to play it  .

It can’t be done virtually. Thank you for tagging him on the post and thank you for your nice comment yourself.

@SholaIB Very interesting Shola. It is on my bucket list. I will surely visit. Did you travel by air or speed boat?

Hello @Austinelewex

My first visit to that Island some years ago was by flight (Chopper) these times I am going on the speed boat.

It’s a very nice and comfortable journey. No photos allowed at the jetty or on board so I probably can’t write any posts regarding that.

Thanks for your nice comments.
