Mejjan is a local Chittagonian term obtained from Persian word Mezban. Which means " “Guest Ity " or mass feast. It is a big and blessed social unique food culture of Chittagongonia People.
With white plain rice, three or four types of curries are served as Mejjani Food, eg beef, ‘nawla kaanji’, and ‘kaloi’ or chick-pea pulse. It has a historical characteristic cooking style; for example, (1) spicy meat cooked with lot of local red chillies; (2) less hot but sour and spicy broth made from tubular bone of cow, which is known as nawla kaanji; (3) a kind of black gram which is cooked after peeling the skin of beans and then crushing them; it is called Ghuna Dal; cooked with half cut full onion (d) food of slightly pungent taste made from chick-pea pulse, bone, fat and meat.
Previously it was only maintained culture by Chittagonian Generation but now a days throughout the country people lovin it and having it.
In Chittagong I found the hotel named "Mijjainna Bari "and “Mejjan Khaili Aayun” serves almost the best dishes of Mezban. The environment is pleasant to have Mejjan clamly.
