A Museum in a Jail

Hi

I want to tell you and show something about a Museum that was once Jail in Bogotá Colombia.

It is the National Museum of Colombia was founded in 1823 and was in several offices in Bogotá until in 1948 it was taken to what were the facilities of the former Central Penitentiary of Cundinamarca, known as “Panoptic”.

The Colombian government declared it a National Monument on August 11, 1975.

The museum has collections such as art, history, archeology and ethnography, thousands of people visit it, school excuses, universities, tourists, curious among others.

Its rooms are adapted to each particular exhibition and some have high security because they have objects of the highest value.

Looks like a good modern museum with some great interpretation of the artefacts and history @luchotele

It looks like a great place to visit @luchotele . This kind of building sounds more suitable for a museum than a Jail, doesn’t it?

Is it possible to learn about the history of the building? Do you know why it is not a Jail anymore?

Interesting to read about a prison turned museum. It is actually a really nice museum and a large one . I could see it is filled to the brim pictures, artifacts and paintings. I could as well see a room with heavy security door and that made me a little curious about what class of arts are inside it ?
