Today was a big and exciting day because I finally got to meet Golam Bhai, a knowledgeable local guide. Even though we had been talking for a long time online, the idea of meeting in person brought our relationship to a whole new level. Rajshahi Railway Station, with its lively atmosphere, was a great choice for our first meeting.
Our conversations about our shared love for local guiding took place against the unique background of the station’s busy atmosphere. By sharing our ideas and experiences, we learned more about the details of mapping and found themes that ran through all of our mapping trips. Golam Bhai’s deep knowledge and real-world experience made our talk more interesting. The meetup was not only fun, but also very educational.
As we walked around the station and talked about interesting places to visit and possible mapping projects, it became clear how well online collaboration and real-life contact can work together. It’s amazing how a love of maps can bring people together in real life and online.
This short but useful meeting set the stage for future work together. It is exciting and hopeful to think that we might be able to work together to improve our neighbourhood mapping efforts. We look forward to more get-togethers, sharing of stories, and the fun of planning our community!
