Jiufen is an old gold-mining town, that now thrives as a must in every tourism list about Taiwan. A 45-minute ride by bus from Taipei makes Jiufen the perfect getaway for a day trip. It offers a great variety of food, lovely architecture and cultural life.
It is usually crowded, but due to the current COVID-19 outbreak and cancellation of flights, it is now rather empty. Taiwanese and people that work and study here, like me, are not limited to travel around the country, so I have taken all the measurements to secure a safe trip to Jiufen. I have to admit it felt amazing to have this place almost all by myself.
Jiufen is said to have served as an inspiration for Ghibli Studio’s Spirited Away and precisely this building, A-Mei Teahouse, is said to be the ultimate inspiration for the animated film. That is why people from all over the world, especially Japanese, are very fond of visiting this breathtaking spot.
Wow this is really beautiful. Could you tell us a bit about it? Do you live there or did you travel? I’d love to here more about this city/town. What else to see? What did you enjoy most? What’s the house in your photo? Is it a restaurant?
It’s always good to add a bit more text to help other Local Guides understand your post better. Thanks!
Hi @Velvel it was an amazing day on Sunday and very few people there. I had all sorts of treats like mochi, stinky tofu, douhua with taro balls and egg tart. I love Jiufen so much and this have been my favorite time there so far.
