A Local Guide, your virtual eyes to the world

What is the most interesting thing you’ve done as a Local Guide?

First for all, honestly, I never thought on becoming a Local Guide, I can say that it happened naturally. It begins some years ago, when I started sharing my experiences about places and restaurants that I visited, just for one reason: remember how was the last time I’ve been there. For example, in the case of restaurants, not to order the same plates of the last time; and, in the case of places, which would be the best season to visit it on the next time.

In order to answer the question, I think the most interesting, but above all important, is the idea of sharing experiences with and for others without expecting something in return, just to give them a preview of what they could find. This is really helpful, as it allows others to make smart decisions about where to visit and, in a way, if they desist, they would be saving money. In that sense, the most interesting thing I’ve done, as a Local Guide, is to help others. As a consequence of the above and without expecting anything, I had the best reward, the gratitude of others (My principal photo have almost 33 thousand views).

I allow myself to tell my story. A few months ago I was in Europe for study, I took the opportunity to visit 3 beautiful countries, Spain, France and Belgium. I had a problem in the last 2, the language. In Spain there were no problems, since my native language is Spanish, but in the other 2, I couldn’t communicate in French. Fortunately I had Google Maps with me, it allowed me to see amazing places and have too much fun. I just had to search the most visited tourist places and got there. It is relevant to mention, this was possible due to the work that Local Guides did sometime. I post below a couple of photo I took on Brussels (On the left, Ossegempark; on the right, around of Atomium).

Finally, given that I have received thanks and that Google Maps was a great help in my trips, I have decided to continue collaborating with this platform. Being a Local Guide works because it is a disinterested work, in that sense, lets work together to achieve a win-win experience. In conclusion, my last phrase would be: “I lend you my eyes and my senses, and I give you my experience, through Google, so you can see what’s around here.

Hello @Juan_Alvarez you might have wondered what happened to the first post you wrote, as that all of a sudden disappeared, right? Well, actually, it was accidentally caught in our spam filter (which is quite strict out here). I have now released it and merged it with your other post, to avoid that your Connect account would get flagged as spammer.

The result is that the content of your first post is now added as a comment to your second post. If you want, you can remove the content of that comment by clicking the ‘…’ at the bottom of the comment and then simply removing the content there (or replace it with something like “content removed as it was an accidental duplicate”).

Nice to see that you visited Belgium - that’s my home country!

If you’re new to Connect, this post will probably be a good starting point.
