A local business no longer has a store phone and would like it removed from their business listing. They told me they had attempted it as the business but could not get google to accept. I attempted an edit but it would not take without a phone number. Is there a generic number that can be used such as 1111111111 to something or just blank? It is a restaurant and only take orders online or in person. No phone.
Hello @Sailor2
Changing phone numbers on Maps is a sensitive issue, as in the past, there had been attempts to alter those fraudulently & deceive gullible persons.
Nevertheless, a business owner can do that by logging into Google My Business.
Here is a quote from the official website:- https://www.google.com/business/faq/
“Y_our free Business Profile on Google helps your business show up when it matters most: the moment customers are searching for your business or products or services like yours on Google Search and Maps. Log into your Google My Business account to update your address, phone number, website, open hours, and more to help customers find and connect with your business. Keep your profile updated with fresh photos, special offers, and promotions to make it easy for customers to choose you_”.
Another thread at link https://support.google.com/business/thread/1907032?hl=en says:
“Since I have ownership I can just delete any info and submit. A pop up of pending submitted changes will come up and I just accepted all changes. Worked!”
If that is not happening, the owner should contact “Google My Business” to effect the change.
The issue the business has is they don’t want a phone number listed at all. Not just change it but to delete it. The manager told me they had tried but it just reverted back to what it was and they have to tell customers as they come in that the phone number listed on Google is wrong. They have no phone.
Hi @Sailor2 thank you for reaching out. My question to you is that, is the business claimed on Google Maps, do the business manage their listing using Google My Business? If yes, the business can do this on its own without trying to reach out to anyone, if they still experaince some issues, they can reach out to support on Google My Business website to get help, or Google help forum, create a post there and state your problem.
Cheers!
Yes, the business owner has an account at claim my business and is working with it to get the issue resolved. Small business owners are very busy people and work long hours and sometimes express their frustration when things don’t happen quick enough. I shared the replies I got here and he felt confident it was going to be resolved. Thank you.
