A live contribution story from Copenhagen

Right now I’m out and about in Copenhagen among all the tourists to see if I can capture some great video for Google Maps.

And I would like to tell you about this 3-way pedestrian and bicycle bridge. This bridge has made Copenhagen much more accessible for everyone except the cars

I was hoping to make an interesting timelapse video. But is was impossible to find a good position to capture the entire bridge properly.

While small talking to the bridge operator (the guy in a neon west) he informed me that the bridge would open at 11am if any ships wanted to pass. So I had only 15 minutes to find a spot and get ready.

First I knocked at the caretakers office in the neighborhood building to no avail. But then a resident asked me if there was any thing she could do me with. She then kindly invited me to come visit her at 5the floor and use one of her windows to film from. Wow.

This is way beyond what I normally would do to create a Maps video.

Here is the result:

As you can see I was lucky that there was a ship wanting to pass.

This is the unedited video. It needs to be 30 seconds only.

I’m very thankful and a little proud to dare to do more to make Maps videos.

PS this is the 5 USD tripod I used.

The bridge can also open the part going to the right in the frame. The “leg” going “down” in the frame cannot open. At 10 AM, both legs opened.

The video is now live on Maps: Google Maps

But it did not get featured. And the resolution is horrible, but I hope this will improve soon.

Terima kasih Bapak @MortenCopenhagen terima kasih bapak sangat menginspirasi :folded_hands:t2:

Same bridge, same day, just later.

This is how cyclists and pedestrians are backed up and waiting in line during a bridge coming down.

This is also to show you how many people travel by bicycle and foot in Copenhagen.

That time lapse video is awesome, especially the part where the bridge is making room for the boat/ ship to pass. This is amazing, @MortenCopenhagen

The video is excellent; it shows the bridge opening and the ship passing nicely. I liked the video. I have also checked the video on Google Maps, available under the Latest tab. I appreciate your efforts and dedication to capturing the video and sharing it with the community. It’s so nice of that resident to invite you into her home to film from the 5th floor. The angle from the 5th floor gives a fantastic view of the bridge opening. Thank you for sharing @MortenCopenhagen.

El video te ha quedado fantástico. Un saludo desde Barcelona

Awesome :100:. I really loved ur all post. You are a great inspiration for me sir/frnd/ guide/well wisher

Great video @MortenCopenhagen! I remember the first time I was in Copenhagen – I was so surprised to find a drawbridge there, I had no idea about it beforehand! We happened to get there just as a ship was passing through, so we were really lucky

But it made us wonder why they didn’t just build a higher bridge, which probably would have been cheaper. Later I read that a traditional bridge would have blocked the historical views of Nyhavn, the canal, and the surrounding architecture. The main goal of the winning design (by the way, created by a Polish-British architect, Cezary Bednarski :poland: :open_mouth: ) was to keep the bridge’s profile as low as possible so as not to disrupt the skyline. Plus, it makes it much easier for cyclists to ride over :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I think this bridge is the nicest one in Copenhagen:

Há uma gíria no Brasil para alguém ou algum acontecimento que faz ou demonstre algo que merece destaque positivo: parabéns @MortenCopenhagen , ficou “Show de Bola”.
