The ICON Park in Orlando is a hidden oasis in the crowd of exorbitant Disney World and Universal Studio.
The entry is free, and also it was not an exhausting experience like the big places.
The valet parking is free, and they work for tips.
I noted that several parking lots were marked reserved for the differently abled.
Though I simply walked across the street using a well paved sidewalk with lush green sights on a lazy afternoon in sunny Orlando.
There are helpful maps of the place at the various entrances.
I found it to be a fantastic place to visit especially during the evening when it started cooling down and was also moderately busy.
The ICON Park hosts a variety of shops, and the atmosphere was very good.
It was a truly enjoyable experience.
The internal streets are car free and lined with street vendors.
There was something to shop for people of all ages and genders.
With tons of entertainment and much to browse and shop, I enjoyed it very much as a first-time visitor.
The many tasty smells floating in the area gave me an appetite.
Not only roadside stalls selling popcorn, cookies, and ice cream, there were also tons of restaurants around.
The ICON Park is home to the Orlando eye and there were also a variety of games including the bungee sling and the Star Flyer swing.
The eye however I was told not ADA compliant.
The train ride actually allowed adults to ride without children present though I did not take it.
As a solo budget traveler, I could not allow the child in me to splurge. So, I kept walking.
There was also a souvenir shop that I explored thoroughly.
The prominent items on display were the Disney characters.
I also found an unusually large number of colorful items in the shape of sea turtles besides the regular mugs, T-shirts and keychains.
There is also a Madam T. wax museum, a museum of illusions, and an aquarium but I did not visit any of those.
I can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed ICON Park. What a cool place…!
Where to Stay
I stayed at the La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham that was just across the street opposite the ICON Park.
Orlando Tourist Places
Of these, I only visited the Universal Studio free exhibits.
The top place to visit in Orlando was yet to come - The Kennedy Space Center.
