A lake that looks like a fjord

Photo 1: Senaiga lake

Today I will take you to the Senaiga dam in the municipality of Lamon, to go around the artificial lake. Someone has compared it to a Norwegian fjord due to the very steep banks and very white rock walls that hang over the lake. We are on the slopes of Lagorai, right at the entrance to Val Cismon and more precisely in Ponte Serra. Here, at the roundabout, head towards Lamon, the village of beans, and leave your car immediately after the first hairpin bend, in a widening of the road. Return to the hairpin bend from where the wide dirt road starts and enters the woods.

You can see that spring has arrived here too at an altitude of 400 metres, the meadows have new grass dotted with violets and other flowers, while the first shoots are growing on the branches of the trees. A tunnel leads to the dam which is about 60 meters high. One imagines a smooth part, but next to it there are concrete spirals similar to gigantic slides to bring the waters to safety.

You enter a very narrow gorge with high white walls overlooking the water. Still following the road, you pass the dam and with tunnels you climb up to almost 800 meters above sea level. You come across various refuges, some very beautiful, without the tourist excesses typical of the Dolomite valleys. There are also some capitals which, although the area may seem remote, are all adorned with fresh flowers. The stone fountain is wonderful with the capital dedicated to the Madonna decorated with splendid orchids.

We arrive up to about 760 meters above sea level and in one of these huts we consume the meringues of the Cri, a show, both the meringues and the panorama. You always descend on a natural balcony almost overhanging the lake, which in truth is rarely seen due to the dense forest almost entirely of beech. The dry leaves that have slipped down the steep slope cover the path and this tickles our imagination. Let’s go back to being children and compete to see who can do the best silly thing, you’re never too old to have fun!

(Let see the movie)

Photo 13: the metal footbridge

You arrive at the metal footbridge at the intersection of two branches of the lake. Someone passes by quickly pretending not to hear the rocking of the bridge, which is actually very limited. Cross the other bank and arrive at the Piei hamlet. Last stupidity: I say hello to Oscar who is going down the main road on a Vespa. He stops and confabulates with our rearguard amazed by the fact that I greeted him, but above all because he doesn’t know me! He had his name written on the front of the Vespa! Will he be the owner of the strange museum? Now all paved road up to the car. 11 km and 400 meters in altitude. Nice day!

Firstly, I fully enjoyed the YouTube video very much - really beautiful - full feelings of the trip is presented there… Especially the shot where you come up from, believe the dried leaves - :ok_hand: :ok_hand: :ok_hand:

Thank You dearest friend @TravellerG , I had a lot of fun on this wonderful day of friendship, sun and nature. I was spoiled for choice of photographs to publish and I had to condense it all into just 15 photos. (you were lucky heh heh heh!!). Then it’s really lucky to live in a place so close to the mountains and the sea. From where I live, in an hour’s drive I can reach the sea in Venice, or the snow on the mountains. On the day of this trip it took us 1 hour to get to the dam but, with an extra half hour of travel time, we could have skied at an altitude of 2000 metres. I guess India has greater distances than European ones, how many hours by road do you have to reach the sea and how many to reach the peaks of the mountains?

Thank you my friend, a hug from Italy.

Ciao @plavarda

:joy: :joy: :joy: . Bel giro e molto vicino a casa tua.

My dearest friend, @plavarda …

As you are aware, usually, now a days, I stay in Bangalore. But, otherwise I stay in Yercaud which is a hillstation, at all altitude of roughly 6,000 feet - that way I’m close to mountains.

But, I have to reach Himalayas, then it is almost 2,000 kms.

But, in Kerala, where I’m from, it is just a couple of of kms to reach a beach - the average width of Kerala is only 70 kms & the maxim may be 125 kms - a very narrow state with around 560 kms long - Kerala is also known as God’s Own Country, because of its natural beauty.

Hope I have answered you well.

Loving hugs from Bangalore.
