Godzilla is the most popular monster character in Japanese movies. He first appeared in the movie “Godzilla” in 1954.
At that time, a US hydrogen bomb test in the Pacific Ocean caused radioactive contamination of the Japanese fishing vessel Daigo Fukuryu Maru. This news shocked the Japanese and made a Godzilla movie. Godzilla is based on idea to become a monster in a hydrogen bomb experiment and spit out radioactivity from his mouth.
A few years later, Godzilla changed his presence from serious and tragic to heroic and comical. And now, Godzilla’s movie is finally made in America.
Last week, I visited the Godzilla movie exhibition with a nostalgic feeling. Godzilla of the 1970s, 90s, 2000s gathered. The latest Godzilla looks like a dinosaur, but I like the first Godzilla, which was a symbol of overwhelming destruction, fear, and absurdity in 1954.
