Back in 2015, I had no idea that my simple habit of leaving reviews and uploading photos on Google Maps would lead me to such an incredible path.
That year marked a turning point in my life as a Local Guide, when I received my very first perk from the Google Local Guides program: the iconic orange Local Guides t-shirt and a personal acknowledgment as a community moderator in G+ platform.
It might seem like a small thing to many, but for me, that moment felt monumental. It wasn’t just about the gift. It was a sign that my contributions mattered. That helping others find their way, discover local gems, and learn about new cultures had value, not just for me, but for millions of people around the world.
That t-shirt became a symbol of purpose, a badge of commitment to continue guiding, documenting, and supporting communities through something as simple yet powerful as Google Maps.
Since then, I’ve hosted over 200 meet-ups, built amazing friendships across Indonesia and beyond, supported small businesses, promoted local heritage, and watched how technology can empower real-world change.
But as time went on, things changed.
One shirt was sadly lost along the way during my travels.
The other? It’s aged with me, faded, worn, stretched, but full of stories.
Still, it holds a special place in my heart.
I hope one day I’ll be able to wear that badge of honor again, fresh, bright, and full of new memories to create.
From a small town to the global stage, this journey has been filled with gratitude, connection, and the belief that every small act of sharing makes a difference.
Thank you to the Google Local Guides team for believing in us. And thank you to every Local Guide who walks this journey too, because together, we are not just mapping the world, we’re making it more human.
Here’s to the memories we’ve made and the adventures yet to come.
