Today, I want to look back at where it all started and share how this incredible community completely transformed my journey, helped me break out of my shell, and connected me with some of the most dedicated people I’ve ever met.
How It All Began
My journey started back around 2016-17. My cousin brother, Arpit Bhaiya, introduced me to the world of Google Maps. Intrigued, I joined and began quietly posting images and reviewing local spots. For years, I was just doing my own thing. I loved contributing, but I had absolutely no clue how to host a meet-up, and honestly, the thought of leading one or jumping on community video calls made me incredibly hesitant.
The Mentors Who Changed Everything
Everything shifted between 2025 and 2026, and I owe a massive thank you to two incredible mentors: @TusharSuradkar and @Gvipin
They completely encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. They helped me shed all my hesitation about hosting events and speaking on video calls. Thanks to their guidance, my journey accelerated rapidly—I went from being a quiet contributor to confidently hosting 3 to 4 meet-ups!
Proud Achievements & Community Love
Stepping up opened doors I never expected. Since diving deeper into the community, I have:
- Hosted multiple successful meet-ups in my city.
- Earned recognized awards from the Local Connect community.
- Joined active WhatsApp groups where I truly saw just how dedicated and passionate Local Guides are about helping others.
One of the most heartwarming parts of this journey has been the friendships. Some of my amazing Local Connect friends have even gifted me custom badges, stickers, and other cool swag, which I absolutely treasure!
A Shift in Perspective
Being part of this global community has completely changed how I look at the world. It has given me a proud platform to represent my city and our rich local culture on a worldwide stage. I used to just see places; now, I see the stories, the people, and the culture that make them special.
