We all contribute to the Google Maps platform in many ways — by adding photos, writing reviews, editing places, or mapping roads. However, a select group of Local Guides also has access to a specialized tool called the Road Mapper platform, which allows us to add missing roads in specific countries using satellite imagery.
I’m Mahabub Hasan from Bangladesh, and I’ve been contributing to this platform since its early beta phase. In fact, during the COVID-19 lockdown, I had my longest non-stop streak of contributions — an incredible 314 consecutive days. Although life’s responsibilities later made daily contributions harder, I’ve always tried to contribute whenever possible.
This year, I set a personal goal to contribute every single day, and I’m excited to share that I’ve now completed six months / 183 Days of non-stop contributions on Road Mapper!
Why am I sharing this?
Because I believe our journeys can inspire others.
Many Local Guides may not be aware of the Road Mapper platform or its impact on helping people navigate more effectively. By sharing my story, I hope to encourage fellow mappers to explore this platform and join the mission to make maps more accurate and inclusive.
@MahabubMunna
Yes brother I am also doing road mapping , I will share my activity summary end of this month insaallah.
I am getting inspiration from you. Thanks
That is certainly worth bragging about, @MahabubMunna You haven’t missed a single day since December.
Have you ever seen any of your roadmapper roads show up on Maps or do you think you are mainly training the AI to detect roads based on satellite and arial photos?
Congratulations @MahabubMunna this is a great milestone. The issue is so many local guides haven’t access yet. Some local guides on my TRAC team were wanting to have access and we tired before the platform was scrapped and it wasn’t possible.
I have an idea in mind, that might help awaken the team regarding access to Road mappers.
Thank you for sharing this achievement
Happy mapping and guiding
Cheers
Well done @MahabubMunna
Here are my numbers - small compared to yours:
Challenges completed: 3113
Kilometers of roads mapped: 3218
My longest streak was 178 days from May 2, 2024 – Oct 26, 2024. I was almost back there again with 174 days which accidentally ended in May 2025. It is quite depressing to go to record a day’s mapping on my spreadsheet, only to discover that the previous day was skipped in error. Now I’ve decided not to attempt another streak, but will definitely continue mapping regularly anyway.
Please note that this platform is only open to the limited number of persons who’ve been given access. I had to wait a long time for my application to be approved, and I don’t think any new persons are being accepted at the moment.
That is so inspiring, @MahabubMunna. Contributing to the road mapping 314 days in a row is not a joke. Kudos to you for that. Keep up the good work and keep inspiring others. Thank you, for sharing your story.
I’ll jump in and give a hearty YES. I pointed out in a meetup last year that we could turn our Road Mapper challenges into points by linking to the Map from our Road Mapper history and drawing roads that were ‘outside the box.’ Also, you can find a lot of interesting road drawings around the countries featured in Road Mapper when you visit the live Map.
