What Local Guides Programme means to me…
I have uncovered a whole new world in Google Local Guides community. I have always been a people person who loves sharing photographs and bonding with others through words. It was an opportune time when Google Local Guides programme happened in my life as I was still exploring to connect with people at a global level.
On my visit to a newly opened burger place, called Burgerland, I had clicked photos and uploaded them. Burgerland responded by inviting me to a meal to thank me for introducing them to Google Maps. That was the beginning of a whole new journey with Google by my side. What was just a hobby of clicking captivating photographs and sharing it with my friends got upgraded to now sharing it also with the new-found, like-minded friends of the local guides community.
I realised how my photographs spoke to people as they spoke to me. We truly connected and I felt a bonding with strangers many of whom I shall probably never meet in my lifetime. I also knew that I was being guided by caring hands of local guides who have gone before me. And I knew that when I contribute to follow in the footsteps of my predecessors. It was a revelation of sorts particularly for a small town girl like me whose idea of family was just my immediate family. This journey of self discovery from ‘me to us’ wasn’t a small thing and I owe it to Google Local Guides Programme for that. I am young and learning how to be more useful to the society and the world at large. But I am an eager learner and I have the best teachers as local guides in the friends I made from all around the world and to my delight that circle of friends keep growing every single day.
