A Hidden Place in Rio de Janeiro - Região dos Lagos

Rio de Janeiro is often known by carnival, people happiness and its natural beauty. Tourists tend to visit Copacabana and Ipanema – and they are right: those are wonderful beaches. But many visitors don’t know there’s a paradise some kilometers away from downtown, called Região dos Lagos - a region surrounded by lakes and beautiful beaches.

Arraial do Cabo - Brazilian Caribbean

A must-go city for everyone who loves beaches! The city structure itself is simple, there isn’t much to do in Arraial do Cabo. But it’s formed by eight astonishing beaches! White sand and blue water, just like Caribbean ones. As you arrive in the city, you can see Prainha. From there, you can walk to Praia do Forno or Praia dos Anjos. This last one is the spot for boat rides or diving. Some of the beaches are only accessible by boat, and you can easily schedule a ride in Praia dos Anjos. In Monte Alto, you can walk from the beach to the lake within minutes and enjoy two completely different places! Take a minute (or several) to visit Pontal do Atalaia, Farol and Costa do Sol.

Praia Seca - A Desert Island

Praia Seca is part of Araruama, but a bit distant from downtown. It takes a little longer to get there, and that’s what makes it special. You feel like you’re in a desert island. You get the nice ocean in front of you, and less people to share that beautiful, nice sand. However, water is somewhat cold, and waves are high. But you know what? It’s just great!

Saquarema - Home for Surfers

Saquarema is known for holding surfing competitions. But as you can imagine, waves are high, and water is freezing cold. Equally beautiful, you can also enjoy the lake within few steps. Different from Praia Seca, Saquarema is a target for many visitors, so you won’t find a spot at the sand easily. Though, it is pleasing, one of the most beautiful in the region.

Cabo Frio – The Famous One

Cabo Frio has a good structure and a nightlife. There’s a big fair on the street every night and you can enjoy food, music, and some entertainment. Home for indigenous, the city still holds places to keep their memory alive. Besides, there are the wonderful, paradisiac, crystalline water beaches. You can go to Praia do Forte, Ilha do Japonês, Unamar, Dunas de Peró, among others. In Cabo Frio, there’s a nautical club as well.

Búzios – Background for Soap Operas

If you watch Brazilian soap operas, you probably had seen Búzios before. Just like Cabo Frio, this city is well-structured for it receives visitors during the entire year. However, it’s a bit more expensive than the others. But equally beautiful. You can take a boat ride to visit many beaches, or just choose one to lay down and relax: Praia dos Ossos, da Tartaruga, da Armação, João Fernandes, and many others!

Here there are just some of the incredible places you can see in Região dos Lagos. Take a time to go and visit Rio das Ostras, Maricá, Casemiro de Abreu, Macaé and also the lakes in Araruama!

Hey @helenlucia welcome to Connect!

So many beaches makes me feel nostalgic.

I’m curious about the water, is it warm in some of this beaches or just cold water like in Buenos Aires shoreline?

Silvy.

Hey, Silvy! It’s often hot, specially from November to May. In summer, from December to February, all beaches are just perfect. But Saquarema and Praia Seca got colder water. If you’re looking for some warmer conditions, you should go to Arraial do Cabo, Cabo Frio or Búzios, for example! I’m sure you will have a great time!!!
