Altamont DaCosta
The Altamont DaCosta Institute here at 1 Central Avenue, Kingston Gardens (Kingston 4), is the former residence of the Honourable Altamont Ernest DaCosta (1868-1935). Mr. DaCosta was a prominent Kingston merchant and public servant of Jewish faith who rose to become mayor of the capital city for a two-year period during the 1920s, from 1925-1927. In 1909, he established the landmark gents’ outfitting store “The Sports” located at 27 King Street, which he ran up until his death.
