A great incentive to collect trash!

I was fortunate to partake in a ‘Local Guides Clean the World’ session during the Connect Live week last October. Since then I have been more concerned about the debris that accumulates on our shores and keep an eye out for initiatives to encourage people to be more proactive.

I was therefore very pleased to see a cafe on the island of Anglesey in Wales taking a positive step in encouraging litter collecting on the local beach.

The beach in question is called Traeth Lligwy a popular location due to its accessibility, parking and small cafe. The cafe owners have added a fantastic feature in the form of a litter bin and half a dozen litter grabbers with a sign telling people they are free to use but please return them afterwards.

We saw a couple of people with excited children enthusiastically looking for trash. What a great and yet simple idea to get people involved in such an important activity… and to make it fun for children too. It would be great to see these ‘Incentive bins’ in more places.

Hi @RussKH ,

This is an amazing initiative, thanks for sharing.

You are always welcome to share more great ideas. Furthermore, you can organize meet-ups at other places to show your experience, and let’s clean all the beaches.

Hello @RussKH ,

It seems you had a very important and good day. Congratulations and thank you so much for sharing with us!

I love that this initiative involved Local Guides from every corner of the world. To all of the Local Guides who participated in this initiative, and to those who are committed to making a difference in their local communities, thank you for making the world a better place.

Hi @RussKH ,

I personally love this kind of initiatives and I hope that you were inspired by Local Guides clean the world - A Local Guides project started by one of the most active Local Guides @ErmesT .

In these days in many countries serious projects has been started in order to reduce the effect of plastic in the environment. In Italy, for instance, is now forbidden to produce cotton buds with plastic supports. How about your Country? Do you know if they implemented laws similar to this one?

This is an amazing initiative, @RussKH . Thank you for organizing and sharing. Every end of September and beginning of October in Bulgaria there are similar gathering organized for cleaning beaches. This is so since they are overpopulated during the whole summer period.

It’s really magical that the initiative caught the eye of children. This is the biggest accomplishment here in my opinion. Are you planning to make it a travelling campaign? I’m sure it would be a great experience.
