Last month, I traveled to Ahmedabad, and this location—known as Shri Swami Narayan Mandir or Kalupur Mandir—amazed me with its tranquility, divine atmosphere, and architecture.
It is a beautiful example of Hindu architecture and a calm place of worship. It’s the world’s first Swaminarayan temple, founded in 1822 by Lord Swaminarayan.
Gujarat’s tremendous artistic talent is reflected in the temple’s elaborate wood carvings, vibrant shades, and intricate designs. Its walls are decorated with beautiful carvings of Hindu mythology and were constructed from white marble and sandstone.
An aura of spirituality is created by the exquisitely decorated idols of Radha-Krishna, Dharmadev-Bhaktimata, NarNarayan Dev, and other deities housed in the main temple.
A haveli, prayer rooms, and a museum documenting the philosophy and history of the Swaminarayan Sampraday are also part of the complex. Its spiritual atmosphere is enhanced by daily rituals, aartis, and bhajans, attracting thousands of devotees and tourists.
Through its educational programs and charity activities, the temple serves society in ways that go beyond spirituality. Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is an essential place to visit whether you’re looking for architectural wonders, cultural history, or spiritual serenity. It provides a peaceful haven in the middle of Ahmedabad’s bustling town and is a shining example of faith, tradition, and artistic talent.
Feel blessed to read your post. Your post is rich with photos and content. The interesting thing is the temple is doing social service. Thank you for sharing your experience. I like the topic very much.
Having visited Swaminarayan Temples in multiple cities, I find this one special since it is the first one.
Excellent photos @AjitThite and virtual Darshan
Indeed, it is a divine architecture.
There is so much to explore in AHD
Thank you for sharing your incredible experience! @AjitThite
Swaminarayan Mandir in Ahmedabad clearly offers a rich blend of spiritual serenity, stunning architecture, and cultural significance.
Great post @AjitThite sir. I visited this in feb 2023 when I visited Ahmedabad. This was our first swami Narayan temple to visit and later we visited the one located in pune
@Durgak03
The Swami Narayan temple we have is of BAPS, another Hindu sampradaya. I think the difference is between a modern, adaptable community (i.e., BAPS) and a more traditional one.
In Ahmedbad also, there are two temples of each sampradaya.
