A Glance at a Hobby - Railroad Modelling

Hobbies are very popular in the United States.

One question you can ask an American to start a conversation with is, “Do you have any hobbies?”

What was a quite person may then become quite animated before you as they talk about what they enjoy doing with their spare time. As you may know a hobby is something someone does regularly during spare time. If you have any, haha!

Talking about hobbies can sometimes lead to a nice trip somewhere. Here are some pictures I took when visiting ‘Chi-Town’ in a small hamlet named ‘Commerce Township’ in Michigan.

If you look up ‘Chi-Town Commerce’ in GoogleMaps you will find the place surrounded by three lakes – Cooley Lake, Long Lake and Union Lake. There are even more lakes all around! It’s amazing.

In any case, be sure to look up ‘Chi-Town Commerce’ because if you look up just Chi-Town – you’ll end up looking at a map of Chicago! Chi-Town is one of the nicknames for Chicago.

The hobby that is pursued at Chi-Town in Commerce is modeling railroads and towns (and Chicago) using ‘O Scale’ models. It is amazing how intricate and detailed the work is on these models.

Hobbies have led me to very interesting and fun places. I like to use GoogleMaps to get to them and share what I’ve seen and heard there. Hobbies are a good source of conversation, can make people happy and at ease and can lead to all sorts of adventures!

Hobbies span the world @AlfredBrock I’ve had various model railways, currently I’m building a new on30 narrow gauge railway in my shed which will feature logging, sawmill, a port and several other destinations.

Mostly I play on a slightly bigger train Puffing Billy Railway as a volunteer. Often I drive this little yellow beast doing track inspection before the trains run for the day - there is track under there, honest! I’m also involved on the diesel footplate as crew.
