“You don’t need a silver fork to eat good food.” -Paul Prudhomme
The next best thing to eating food is talking about it, and as a Local Google Guide, that is exactly what I do.
A mutual love of food can bring different people together and our reviews on Google maps, do just that.
I am a real foodie and love to visit restaurants to taste and review good food. Every type of food falls within this category - from the humble cheeseburger to the most extravagant Steak Tartare.
So where did my love for good food came from? As a young married woman, I started to experiment with cooking and baking out of desperation as I did not have a clue how to cook or bake. Soon I had a love affair, or rather a food affair, with good food. I then started inviting friends over to enjoy (hopefully!) my food while having a good time together. Later years I started baking novelty cakes on order, as shown in the picture below. When the Local Google Guides program came along, I jumped at the chance to mix business with pleasure.
There are so many great places to eat at in my hometown, Stellenbosch, that comparisons and reviews on Google, are not only helpful when looking for the top restaurants, coffee shops and cafes, but they are also excellent for hunting down the best prices.
An example of one of my favourite restaurants in Stellenbosch is Ya-Ya which is known for its great food, good service and warm atmosphere. The picture of the burger below shows you that Ya-Ya has, amongst others, healthy options. https://goo.gl/maps/7LF6xPjQr4Crb1Xh8
Just further down the road, but just as popular, is The Boer and Butcher, which are well-known for their tasty meat and huge burgers. Although both restaurants sell burgers, the burgers are hugely different in size and taste. That is were Google reviews makes a huge difference to the community -by showing and explaining the different options available at different places. We are, in a sense, with our reviews, educating and uplifting our different communities, and I love doing that as it makes the cause so worthwhile.

As Margaret Mead once said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has."
