A family in making... Story of Red-vented Bulbul Bird

I could see these birds in my garden space for some days and making frequent visits. The Red-vented Bulbul is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds. It is resident breeder in tropical southern Asia from India and Sri Lanka east to Burma and southwestern China.

The Red-vented Bulbul is easily identified by its short crest giving the head a squarish appearance. The body is dark brown with a scaly pattern while the head is darker or black. The rump is white while the vent is red. The black tail is tipped in white.

Male and female are similar in plumage, but young birds are duller than adults. Their alarm calls are usually responded to by many other species of bird.

By looking their close moves, I could witness a nest on one of the bamboo trees with this tiny little bulbul’s.

When I was taking pictures, the little ones were opening their mouth for food. The adult bulbul coming with insects as food to feed the little ones.

After few days the little birds have fallen from the nest in attempt of flying out from the nest. The adult bulbul was helpless in moving them to safe place.

We had few cats and dogs in the community, and it was great threat for the little ones. I moved the little ones to new nest with big in size, but even after some time they started moving out of the nest.

Tried moving them to another bigger nest and they come out again and unable to fly high.

To make a safer place I moved them to a bigger drum which is safe from moving out and full protection from cats and dogs.

After 3 days little one could come out for take off and reached top of the bamboo tree to start its flying journey. Two days later another one has come out and happily took its safe track.

Help the birds to return by arranging food grains and water in your balcony, roof top and in parks.

Thanks Vijay

I wanted to write a story about this Birds. Your story is informative.

These birds are my friends

Tracked them for two years and took lot of Photos and Videos.

At last I brought them to my Balcony

Made a place for them to come and Ear…banana and drink water.

I love watching them doing all this just a feet away from me.

After a heavy thunderstorms and rain last week in Bengaluru, I see only one this morning.

It always makes me nervous to get involved with nature (moving wild birds from their home into a man-made one temporarily) because they might get used to humans, which in the long run is bad @VijayBhasker .

Cheers,

Karen

@GeorgeEPremkumar Happy to find some more Bird Lovers here to support my post. Yes, I can understand its not that easy to sync with them in short while. I can visualize the efforts put by you in capturing those moments and its always fun to watch the bird behaviors when taking bath and their way of basking. Do check my recent post on Sparrows hope you will like it.

@KarenVChin It seems like you have a different opinion on these birds and their connectivity with humans. Usually Bulbul birds find themselves more secure in living close to residential communities and with humans rather than in wild.

Not all birds will have the same survival skills of living in wild, fires, heavy rains and predators are the main causes of fledgling mortality in scrub habitats in southern India and making their way to our communities. I never got any wild birds to my place and I’m against to keeping birds in cages as pets killing their freedom to fly.

Even in my previous post on Sparrows I made it clear point that Sparrows can only survive and live where human life exists and they are not found in any wild places till now. Hope I have made some sense in clearing the air for you in the case of these birds.

@ST_Velu Feeling happy to find another Bird Lover through my post. Thanks for the comments, stay connected I’m going to post few more bird stories here.

Hope you might have seen my recent post on Sparrows.
