A dry fruit--Makhana (Prickly Water Lily) !!!

Dear connect community friends,

We have to do something in this Lockdown situation, like conversation on a topic if it’s meaningful as per guidelines of connect topics.

Well friends, I would like to share about Makhana (Prickly Water Lily) ,a kind of dry fruit like cashew nuts, it’s an aquatic watering crop ,mostly cultivated in Northern Bihar, besides, Korea ,Japan and fewer parts of Eastern Russia.

It’s pure unconventional fruit for major population. Its recipes are 1) just heat it on fire and add little salt ,thus it becomes a salty tasty recipe. 2) if it is added in milk with sugar, it becomes a good sweet. In this way ,we can eat this tasty fruit .

Coming to its importance and benefits for health–as we know it’s a kind of snacks, helping in to control diabetes, by taking 4 pieces in the morning, it also helps in recovering from heart diseases, it’s digestive, etc.

So ,it’s not only dry fruit, it’s beneficial for health also .Coming to its price, depending upon quality of Makhana (a Hindi name) ,vary from 500 to 1200 Rs.(Indian currency) per kg.

Assuming my friends would like this conversation about Makhana.

Thanking to all friends.

This is a new one for me @ShekharMuz_5 , I have never heard of this type of fruit. The recipe with salt sounds very interesting though and is probably the one I would like the most.

Are these fruits easy to find and pick or would you have to find a place that sells them?

Its also found in our Bangladesh. In our Dhaka local people called Dhakaya they are fond of this fruit.
