I’ve been researching the different benefits that review platforms provide and this includes comparing and contrasting Yelp Elite program with Google Local Guides. What I have found is that to be a Yelp Elite you really have to be concentrated in one small geographic area and have to be approved by the local coordinator there. That is very limiting - especially for those of us who love to travel!
With Google Maps, you can contribute anywhere you may be and your profile will continue to get the same points and prestige through the points and leveling system. You can become a Level 8, 9, or 10 Local Guide even if you are contributing in different geographical locations every day!
That is why I have decided not to participate in the Yelp Elite program and to instead contribute to Google Maps! It really is better for travellers.
Thank you for very much for sharing your story and for your contributions on Google Maps. Connect is a place to get to know other Local Guides, share your stories, provide feature requests, organize meet-ups, share your feedback, write reviews about places and many more.
Please don’t forget to tag Connect members in your posts (by writing @ before their name) This way they receive a notification and know that you are trying to communicate with them directly.
By the way, I relabeled your post and it now appears in Local Stories topic. Here, you’ll learn about Local Guides around the globe who are making a positive impact in their communities, efforts to improve accessibility, and more. Whether you’re on a mission to save the environment or want make it easier for people in wheelchairs to get around, this section was created for Local Guides who are advocates in their community.
Aruni - in my post I am promoting Google Local Guides and the Google Local Guides program and celebrating the fact that it is a beneficial program for travelers.
Interesting point @johnanderson - I had no idea that that particular program had that specific requirement/suggestion - I agree with you on the idea of Local Guides being great since it isn’t restricted to your contributions being more central than not. If anything, it’s excellent because it encourages exploration and travel, as well as connections, wherever the heart wishes to.
