A Day in Kolkata- The City Of Joy !

Victoria Memorial was built in the year 1906 and its construction went up to 1921. built for the then empress Queen Victoria, it still is a heritage site in Kolkata. located at the banks of the river Hooghly, this beautiful structure has many entrances and has gardens at all the entrances. The most fascinating thing about this monument is that it looks beautiful from anywhere you see it. Kolkata a city with so much cultural heritage still holds the old aged monument so well. Victoria Memorial has a Museum, Galleries, and gardens which are a must-visit.

I visited this place for the second time last year when the city was lightly hit by the Cyclone Fani. The city was so gloomy yet so vibrant because of the people and the culture. Bengalis are knowns as the sweetest people. While I entered the Memorial for the rear entrance and was awestruck with its beauty. Walking towards the main entry for the museum I clicked so many pictures as was not able to take my eyes of the white marble structure and the carvings are done on it. Then comes the most exciting part, for a person like who is very interested in visiting museums and galleries this place is a must-visit. The beautiful dome construction is as beautiful as the National Art Gallery, London.

After getting out of the Memorial I had some amazing puchkas and chana chaat of Kolkata. Just after eating the tasty street food, I headed for some sweetness in life, K.C. Das sweet shop in the new market area. Tasted some lip-smacking rasgullas, chomchom and kalakand. My day was over in Kolkata and I had to leave for my destination, but before leaving the city I made sure I took a ride in their famous The Yellow Taxi!

They say if you are in Kolkata you should not miss the sunset at the Hooghly river, just below the Howrah Bridge. So yes, I headed there for the sunset and saw one of the most beautiful sunsets, so mesmerizing that I didn’t even take a single picture of the immensely beautiful sight.

A person should visit this city once at least for all the reasons. Love to the city of joy.

@MahabubMunna I think this ride has been discontinued long back.

I read about it in the newspaper though some people might still be pulling it.

No. It is absolutely fair @MahabubMunna

Plenty of people around us do laborious jobs - I see nothing wrong just because we are a part of it, as long as they are fairly paid.

I only fear these person-pulled rickshaws do not go out of practice before my next visit to Kolkata

Out here in Delhi, specifically Gurugram, human-pulled cycle-rickshaws are common,

Just because the labors in Kolkata are not pedaling but walking barefoot DOES NOT make it inhumane.

Just my thoughts…
