I have a thing for galleries. I always have. Just to name a few of my favourites around the world: The Met in NYC, Barnes Foundation Museum in Philly, Nelson Museum in Kansas City, Art and Science Museum in Singapore and Long Museum in Shanghai. If only I had all the time in the world, I’d go to ALL of the galleries!
You could call me an artsy fartsy person of sorts (I did competitively paint until high school), but the reason why I truly love galleries is the experience of it all - not only for me, but for those I go with. I think that’s what makes it worth it. And thank goodness that my husband enjoys it just as much (if not more!) as long as I don’t bother him with all of the soundtracks and poses that come to my mind as I look at certain pieces. Yes, I am that person, unfortunately for him I might sing the song on repeat until we step out of the museum.
That’s exactly what happened at the Singapore National Gallery Minimalism exhibition this past weekend. And of course the songs of choice were “All of the lights” and “Yellow.” As you might’ve guessed the exhibition itself was full of lights… everywhere. At first my husband and I questioned how this could possibly be art and thought “I can make this”, but then as we went throughout the exhibition we found ourselves taking pictures, not understanding a lot of the art and tilting our heads. That’s when it registered that this was what all of this about - the experience with your loved ones and learning a thing or two by not fully understanding because that’s where it all begin (probably much more than what I’ve mentioned!)
With that, I encourage you all to go check it out for a great day with your friends or a special someone. Also so you can take a picture of yourself in the “No object implies the existence of any other” mirror and have a #mindblown moment.
P.S. The gift shop is my kind of heaven!!! Check it out too!
