A Day at Lakshmipur...with a Guiding Star

On 17th June 2023 I went to visit Lakshmipur district where I met with Guiding Star @GaziSalauddinbd whose home district. The breathtaking beauty of the coastal town of Lakshmipur leaves a deep mark on the mind of any person. Coconut, betel nut and paddy are mentioned along with the name of this district, but mainly the people of the district prefer to associate Meghna river with the name.

I left Dhaka for Lakshmipur at 6.00 am and reached Lakshmipur at 9.30 am. I met Mr. Gazi Salahuddin at 10 am. Then started our journey to our first destination.

Bura Karta Ashram

Location: https://goo.gl/maps/Db15wedqjfMbMMN87

In 1335 Bengali year, the body of a spiritual great man of the Hindu community named Radha Kant Swahang was found on the banks of the Meghna River in Chramtua area of Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur. At that time one of his servants named Kshetra Mohan Chakraborty was shown in a dream to bury the body. Later, the serviceman and his son Malti Mohan Chakraborty gave his body a special burial in the local Char Doctor area. The burial place is named as Radha Kant Swahang Shamiji’s Ashram. Because of his old age, it became known as Bura Karta Ashram.

Meghna River

Ramgati Meghna Beach’s Location: https://goo.gl/maps/FbPqRDVumJjXkeF27

The western part of Lakshmipur district is surrounded by Meghna River. Meghna River is a big river of Bangladesh. Every year during the monsoon, the Meghna River rises and causes floods. At these places the Meghna River meets the Bay of Bengal. Alexander Meghna Beach is basically an embankment. This embankment was built around the city of Alexander to protect the homes of the people affected by the erosion of the Ramgati in the district from the Meghna. The dam was built around the city of Alexander. As far as the eye goes to the south, the eye seems to run towards the river. The waves of the river crashed on the embankment.

Khoashagor Lake

Location: https://goo.gl/maps/yanymfscp81Cd9vbA

Khoashagor Lake is at Dalal Bazar in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. The amount of land in this lake is about 22 acres. The lake was dug 200 years ago. This initiative was taken by the then king zamindar Brajavallabh Roy to fill the soil in the surrounding area and save water for human consumption. Khoashagor lake is a beautiful natural mix with clear water, blue sky view and surrounding greenery. Here different species of guest birds dive into the water and satisfy their hunger by hunting fish. Nature lovers enjoy the sight of birds chirping and flying.

Dalal Bazar Zamindar Bari

Location: https://goo.gl/maps/YKBGZT6QUkRRxVEq5

Dalal Bazar Zamindar Bari is one of the historical places in Lakshmipur. Its location is in Dalal Bazar of Lakshmipur district. Lakshmi Narayana Vaishnava came to Dalal Bazar from Calcutta about 400 years ago to trade cloth. His successors acquired the commercial agency of the East India Company and later the zamindari. Being commercial agents, the locals did not take them seriously. He called them ‘brokers’. When the zamindars fled in the communal riots of 1946, their abandoned zamindar house remained. Rajgate, Raj Palace, Zamindar Palace, Andar Mahal Palace, House Wall, Shaan Bandhano Ghat, Nat Mandir, Puja Mandap in front of this zamindar house of about 5 acres.

Kaman Khola (Harendra) Zamindar Bari

Location: https://goo.gl/maps/MRCTVGkajDUUv7mn7

Harendra Babu’s house is located half a kilometer north of Kamal Khola Bazar in Paschim-Laxmipur village. It is known as an old zamindar house. This is Kaman Khola Zamindar House. In front of the two hundred year old house is a two storied prayer’s room. Passing through the guarded entrance, one will see the royal palace. Visitors flock to see such a beautiful house.

Also I visited @GaziSalauddinbd Mr. Gazi Salauddin’s House. He fed me lunch.

Happy tourism!
