It was a cultural display at my place today. These are masquerades, they are called mmanwu in Igbo language. According to the culture, people should not go too close to mmanwu or touch it because it’s believed to be spirit. This is one of the cultural celebrations of the Igbo tribe in Nigeria.
My brother im from Anambra state and we also have masquerade display and they are very beautiful and well respected. Its been long i havent been able to see them coz im far away from home. Please post more fotos like this, people need to knoe more about it.

Thanks a lot @VasT , I’m honestly sorry for violating the policy, it skipped my mind.
The masquerade is believed to be the spirits of dead loved ones. The tradition is like the Halloween.
I am intrigued to hear all about spirits @Engr_Blinx . In Greece we have a similar tradition, it’s called rogatsaria. The participants wear bells to drive out the wicked spirits. When is taking place this celebration?
@VasT the celebration always takes place during festive periods like new yam festival (August), New year celebration periods, December holidays period.
It’s amazing to see people put out our cultural heritage to public eyes.
Kudos, Nnwanna.
