A captivating view of Fort Tung near Lonavala, Pune.

Caption:- No. That’s not a volcano blowing steam. That’s Tung fort.

While returning from the Bedse caves, I chanced upon this captivating view of Tung fort.

The clouds were in precise alignment to produce an illusion of the mountain spewing steam like a volcano. The shape of the Fort, when we view from this angle, is also moderately conical.

Although the Deccan plateau owes its existence to intense volcanic activity in the ancient past, there aren’t any relics of volcano mounds.

Tung was a notable fort in the Maratha empire. The location is in Pawan-maval in Pune district and is reachable from Lonavala.

तुंग किल्ल्याला पर्यायी नाव आहे कठिणगड. अर्थात नावातच सर्व काही आले.

पण योग्य मार्गदर्शन असेल तर नक्कीच जाता येईल.

गडाच्या पायथ्याशी पोचण्यासाठी दोन मार्ग आहेत. एक म्हणजे पवना धरण साठ्यातून बोटीने जाणे. किंवा, लोणावळा भुशी धरण या मार्गाने जाणे.

पण गड गिर्यारोहणा साठी कठीण आहे हे नक्की.

त्या परिसरात बरेच गड आहेत आणि एकदा तरी नक्की भेट देण्यासारखे आहेत.

तुंग अतिशय कठीण आहे असे वाचले आहे. त्यामुळे मार्गदर्शक आवश्यक.
