9 Awesome Destinations in Ilocos - The Home of the Heritage Sites

Every now and then we always travel to different places, but these places are not just only for views but in fact they offer adventures of your life. Ilocos is located in the Northwest of Luzon and also known as Region 1. From Manila, you can go here via 8 hours car travel or a 1 hour travel by plane. Join me as I unravel these great adventures.

First on the list of is Baluarte Zoo, One of the biggest zoo’s here in the Philippines. Wherein there is an animal show everyday showcasing talents of different animals like a pig that can draw, a cat that jumps over five feet and a falcon stretching his wings for a snack. They also provide encounters to hold snakes, iguanas and even tigers. People and children really learn a lot to love animals from this Zoo. Next to the list is Bacsil, this is a place where you can ride a 4x4 Jeep Trucks and will tour you around on the vast desert of Paoay with intense roller coaster ride alike. And will also bring you to an area where you can surf the dessert downhill. Truly this is an extreme adventure. Third on the destination is the Paoay Church also know as Saint Augustine Church wherein according to the locals its walls was build by the help of egg yolks that serves as a cement way back and a rumoured underground tunnel that leads straight to Malacanang of The North wherein use as a escape route in case of emergencies. Fourth location would be Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, an old lighthouse situated in the center of Burgos Ilocos Norte. You can see breath taking views here and this lighthouse serves also as a watch tower for pirates and foreign invaders long time ago. This tourist spot also helps locals in terms of tourism which they offer tricycle as a mode of transportation and others sell souvenirs. Next stop is the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation or in their dialect which means “The White Rock". This astonishing structure was form naturally with sulphur and salt water from the sea that is present in this area. Horseback riding is offered here and refreshments after the site seeing. Another spot would be the famous Windmill Farm in Bangui where gigantic windmills as tall as a skyscraper buildings serves as Electric Reservoir in the region and on the other side you can also see Solar Panels that also generates electricity. This project that later widely known as a spot, also saves and helps Mother Nature from toxic chemicals in producing electricity. Seventh to the list is the Dragon Fruit Farm. The owner also known as Aunt Fely told us that before she only planted this kind of fruit (the dragon fruit) due to her sick son but when her son’s condition was helped by this amazing fruit she started planting more to share to her friends and neighbours that soon became a plantation which also shipped and exported dragon fruits to different parts of the world. The Eight destination would be the Bantay Abot Cave, basically a huge chunk of land mass that has a hole in the lower part of it. Became famous to tourist, because of its superb view of the open sea encircling the area. Which why it really helped the tourism and local children here act as a tour guide and outstanding photographer because of the nicest photo taken like a professional. Earnings from small tips helps them in their educational expenses. And lastly but not least is the Calle Crisologo, an old street heritage dating back in the Spanish Era. Stretching from Florentino Street to Rivero Street covers the distance. Museums and old artifacts are often seen in this area. Stone floorings and side buildings are still intact and preserve to learn about the cultures and traditions of this place.

People here are very warm, friendly and very hospitable like you wanna come back here always. But whats good in it is that it helps locals in their daily lives meet. By means of Tourism blooming, transportations and businesses arise and children earn a little in helping them to go to schools to achieve their dreams.
