Can you believe it’s been eight incredible years since I embarked on this amazing adventure as a Google Map Local Guide? It all started with a simple passion for exploring new places, indulging in delicious food, and sharing my experiences with others.
From the very beginning, I was determined to be the best Local Guide I could be. I poured my heart and soul into writing detailed, honest reviews, capturing stunning photos, and providing accurate information about the places I visited. My goal was to help fellow travelers make informed decisions about where to go and what to do.
Then life happened. Higher studies took center stage, and my Local Guide journey took a two-year hiatus. But the wanderlust never truly left me. As soon as I could, I was back on the road, exploring and updating my Google Maps contributions with renewed enthusiasm.
In the past two years, I’ve managed to rack up around 1000 contributions! It’s been incredibly rewarding to see my reviews help countless people. Some of my detailed write-ups on popular spots even went viral, garnering tons of views and upvotes. It’s incredibly satisfying to know that my recommendations have helped people choose the perfect places to visit.
I was over the moon when I received the news about the Google Map pin just a few days before my birthday. Unfortunately, the excitement quickly turned to disappointment when the pin got lost in transit. To make matters worse, Google Maps Community didn’t respond to my emails before the code expired. But hey, life happens! It hasn’t deterred my passion for exploring and sharing.
While I couldn’t physically collect my pin, I’ve continued to explore and update my hometown on Google Maps. It’s been a fulfilling journey, and I’m proud of the contributions I’ve made to the platform.
Now, as I look back on these eight years, I’m filled with gratitude for this incredible experience. I’ve met amazing people, discovered hidden gems, and created lasting memories. And I’m excited to embark on a new chapter: hosting meetups and exploring new places with fellow Local Guides. Connecting with like-minded people, sharing our love for food and travel, and discovering new spots together – it’s the perfect way to continue this adventure. (Although, someone has to tell me how to do it :P)
