On my way to Ajmeri Gate today I noticed this beautiful Clock Tower, checked google couldn’t find it, so decided to read little history about the clock tower and also added the place on Google
The market was set up to provide livelihood to Partition refugees who settled in Delhi and was inaugurated by former president Dr Rajendra Prasad on November 26, 1951. The same year the clock tower was also installed there.
The clock tower was maintained by the market association till 1995. Then, the local mechanic who used to maintain the clock passed away. It had remained non-functional for almost three decades, but its original machine was intact
In 2024 The tower had been repaired, repainted, flex boards installed on the structure have been removed and its original four clocks have been made functional
That’s brilliant @Manishhh this is the best example of finding hidden gems of historical importance, adding them on Google Maps and sharing with the world
Great to see @TusharSuradkar obsession with clock tower gaining traction
That is a great discovery in Delhi and a lovely story to read @Manishhh straight out os a dream tale.
Thanks for sharing the renovated photos and the location - we will meet here when in Delhi, @Ssiddharth2000 I’d say I have a fascination for clock towers though, not an obsession as you mentioned
@AjitThite@ShubhamWaman - We should go back to the clock tower you showed me during the Adya Tea Point visit and get the clock back on the tower, what say?
@Manishhh found the Kamla Market Clock Tower. I will now gather more information about it to address the user’s query.
The Kamla Market Clock Tower is 72 years old. It was recently restored, and the clock is ticking again after several decades.
