I’m excited to share that the 1,319 Photos I have shared on Google Maps crossed the 50,000,000 views threshold as of today! That’s an average of 38,025 views per photo, and the range is from 6,143,697 for the most viewed photo to 9 views for the least viewed photo.
I posted my first photo on Google Maps about 3 and a half years ago when hiking in Yosemite; that photo has 35 views as of today. I posted a photo less that 24 hours ago and that photo has 407 views. A photo I posted 4 days ago has already exceeded 45,000 views.
I started posting on Google Maps about 6 years ago, with no awareness of being a “Google Guide.” For the first 3 years my contributions were just ratings and a few reviews. In my travels I had benefitted from the reviews and photos others posted and felt I should start contributing to help others. I didn’t much pay attention to the notifications or emails Google sent me about my contributions. In 2019 I received an email from Google congratulating me on reaching Level 5, which piqued my interest. That’s when I discovered that being a “Google Guide” is “a thing” and that there is an active community of guides.
I’m on target to hit Level 8 within the next month! I welcome any tips on how to increase the number of followers I have (76 at the moment). I try to contribute pics and reviews that are informative and relevant. I plan to travel extensively in the next two years, with plans to be in 20 U.S. cities and 12 countries on four continents.
You have posted this in the Photography section. It would be really helpful if you would move this post to the Achivements section where it fits better. Just edit your post again, select the new Topic at the top, and save it again. Further instructions on editing your posts can be found here.
How to choose a section/topic for your Connect post might also be interesting for you.
Thanks for the heads up; I updated the topic to Achievements. I had tagged the post with Photography and Achievements, assuming it would appear in both topics. I’m still learning the ropes, as goes the cliché.
Also, thanks for your contributions here on Local Guides and kudos to you on your achievements. Quite impressive!
Great achievement - you take great photos and travel across large cities in the US.
These are popular places and those viewers numbers will keep climbing…
The levels are becoming harder as you need to double all your previous achievement for the next level but just keep contributing.
Sadly, followers on maps is not as engaging as popular social media platforms and therefore not many people are even aware of this feature.
Even for very active local guides, the rate of new followers is not high.
The best way to get followers is simply follow others and hope they return a follow…
Thanks, Sam! With no expectation of quid pro quo, I started following you I plan to be in London later this year. Should our schedules and travels intersect, I welcome the opportunity to meet in person. All the best, Christopher
Hi. I’m from Kenya, how does Google maps really compensate for that time I’ll be contributing? There are so many great places that have not been mapped…and wonders can be made.
congratulations on your accomplishments. It’s inspiring and encouraging to see you going all out to help your global community. Keep it up for your success is meaningful when you impact the lives of people.
