5 Tips About What “Not To Do” During Travel Photography

Here are few points to keep in mind to ensure that you taking the best photos without putting yourself into trouble.

1. “Photography is prohibited” – Don’t ignore this sign.

You might be visiting a place for the first time and you’re super excited to capture the beauty of the place. It can be a corporate office, museum or historical monument. But suddenly you notice that there is a sign board indicating “Photography is Prohibited”. It may spoil your mood but as a visitor/tourist it is expected from your to follow the rules. Do not ignore these sign boards. Pay respect to the local order. Take this time to cherish the moment and enjoy. Find out other facts about that place. Do not be disappointed if you can’t take pictures.

2. Safety First

Sometimes we put ourselves in risk just to capture one photograph. As we are more addicted to social media, we feel that our picture should get more and more likes. And to make the picture eye-catchy some people climbs the building, stands on the wall, lose hands while riding bikes etc. Do not do try these kinds of daredevil poses for the sake of short term fame. Your safety is more important.

3. Do not post your picture immediately

Sometimes we want to know the world where we are travelling and thus we upload our picture then and there either on Facebook or Instagram. It is good to share what you are doing or where you have been. But we become more focused on this process rather than enjoying the real beauty of the place. You should try to capture images with different composition, analyze them and share the best one with your audience.

4. Don’t force your friends to take picture

Most of the great pictures are not selfies- your friend takes them. Choose best background before requesting someone to take your picture. It is not necessary that your friend also have interest in photography like you. You can request them for few times but you cannot force them every time. Stopping after every 5 minute just to take a good picture is not a good idea and this can irritate your friends.

5. Don’t take picture without permission

If you’re thinking to take picture with local people, of their culture or their lifestyle, make sure you ask them first. Some people don’t want to get clicked. Some communities do not want to showcase their culture through media. Make sure you do not interrupt their privacy. Ask them. Talk to them. Give them a little comfort so that they feel happy to have a click with you.
