5 spots to get treats for the festivities this fall

This time of year marks the start of a series of celebrations in different parts of the world, all with one thing in common — sweet treats! On Halloween, which is on October 31, children (and anyone, really) dress up in costumes and go door-to-door ‘trick-or-treating’ to collect candy from neighbors and friends. One of the main elements of Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, on November 2 is the traditional Mexican sweet bread. And bonfire toffee is the ultimate dessert for Guy Fawkes Night on November 5.

To get you in a festive mood, we’ve rounded up some of the “sweets”est Local Guides’ contributions on Google Maps and Connect. Read on to discover five whimsical candy and pastry shops from around the globe to add to your foodie list.

For those of you looking for vegan options, we recommend following @Jesi ’s list of plant-based ice cream places in Buenos Aires. And if you prefer homemade, @Lusianaa has the perfect recipe for spooky brownies! Even if you don’t celebrate, take this as a sign to treat yourself and the people you love to your favorite dessert, at home or a local shop.

Thank for sharing these great places @DeniGu !

My favourite place is realted to Día de Muertos, in my city there is a fair called “Feria del Alfeñique” and I like to buy chocolate skulls, there are also a lot of traditional mexican sweets. I went yesterday and I couldn’t wait to start eating my chocolate skull hahaha , but heres a photo of one from last year:

Halloween has never been a part of our culture, back in Bangladesh. Not until last 15-20 years or may be a little more. So Halloween never created an impact on our daily lives either. But as it is celebrated worldwide now and we witness the world getting smaller due to the vast world wide web, Halloween has become a part of our celebrations too. After all, who doesn’t want a sweet treat? Thank you for the wonderful selection of treats, @DeniGu . Congratulations to @Jesi, @Lusianaa, Lexa C, Mohamed Ben Osmane, Dominique Bellin, セントオウル and Sheakh Shakil for being featured. As I am from Bangladesh, those sweets on the shelves made me drool the most, even though I am working on reducing my sugar intake. :yum:

Thank you @DeniGu Happy Halloween. I have to also shoutout @Stephanie_OWL who is always so supportive of my posts, and she actually notified me of the mention and I’m so happy she did; for some reason my email was sending some alerts to a promotions folder instead. I am honored to have my article mentioned.

I also enjoyed reading what you wrote about the different places to eat sweets. The Bangladesh sweets look amazing!

As for my favorite place to grab a sweet treat, I’d say Tea Fresho. For example, I love this creamy dragonfruit boba tea.

I love the Maps picture you shared @ShafiulB , definitely mouthwatering! Do you have a favorite treat of the ones in the photo?

@MahabubMunna your photo also confirms my opinion that Bangladeshi sweets are a must-try! Which dessert do you think people should try at least once?
