Like everyone here, I never go to a place without looking at the reviews on Google Maps.
I use it to find the food or service I need, with great success, but if any product manager at Google Maps is looking at this, then these are feature‘s I would love to see:
1. More filters when looking for places.
I wish I had the freedom to find exactly the place I‘m looking for. So I could filter for example by:
a. Number of reviews (could also be a „sort by“ feature)
b. Category
c. Opening time (not just „open now“ – because I love to prepare in advance haha)
d. Price range (for the places which have it)
e. Outdoor seating, WiFi, kid-friendly, etc.
2. Show me places I‘m likely to love
Based on the places I previously liked.
Wouldn‘t have to be complicated, but you could use algorithms to match me with like mided reviewers and show me the places around which they rated 5 stars.
3. Let me give more than „one rating“ for all – and let me see more than this one rating
Sometimes I‘m just looking for a place with good coffee and a nice ambiance. But that place could be a 3 star place because the service is horrible or their food is not excellent. But it is hard for me to find this place in the current rating (and search) system.
When I give a rating I wouldn‘t mind giving „over all rating“ as it is now, and then have the option to rate on specific features – so I could rate the place 5 starts for food but 1 star for service etc. (I have some further ideas on that but this post is already becoming long…)
Another feature which could also be good would be complement on specific features at the place. For example I could mark the place „excellent coffee“ or „nice ambiance“ or „impeccable service“ and/or „good for kids“ etc. – Then when I search I can look for places which are often voted with „excellent coffee“ if that‘s what I‘m looking for.
4. Let me see and filter other Local Guide‘s places
Sometimes, I‘m looking at reviews, and I find this local guide who seems to have exactly the same mindset as me. And I‘d love to see the places that guide would recommend in a certain city. However, in the iOS app, I can only see a list of all his/her reviews in a list. I would like to be able to filter them to „5 star reviews“ and look at them on a map (or search for them on a map). So I find out his/her 5 star places in my area. Not have to go through all his/her reviews from his/her travel on the other side of the world.
5. Show me new places around me
That could also be a filter, or just suggestions. So I know if a new restaurant just opened in my area, so I can check it out.
I just wanted to put my thoughts out there, so you know at least what features I‘d be using all the time. Maybe (hopefully) they are all on the roadmap already
