5 Ideas for Thanking Local Guides given the Connect Live 2020 cancellation

Hi friends,

At first, when I was notified that Connect Live 2020 was cancelled, I was really disappointed and kinda upset. As one of the 12,296 applicants, I appreciate how hard you worked to do your best fulfilling all the requirements. The generic text email was such a letdown. While walking my dog and stewing about the email, I realized reaching out to this great community is what would make it right for me. Being a Local Guide is all about sharing and supporting, and we can still do that. So, I’m posting this to share 5 ideas I had for how to recognize and celebrate Local Guides’ contributions. I would love to hear your ideas!

  1. Donate part/all of the travel/event funds from Connect Live 2020 to international organizations for food distribution and /or PPE/COVID-19 fighting costs

  2. Donate part/all of the travel/event funds from Connect Live 2020 to international organizations supporting local businesses

  3. Create a Google Doodle celebrating Google Local Guides

  4. Give us the stats on everyone who applied for Connect Live 2020 ( # of countries, demographics, Guide Levels)–I love stats!

  5. Give us a virtual tour of Google HQ in CA in October—Simulate what we would have seen. I was looking forward to touring the campus.

Love this post @barbhmphilly , even if I think “Local Stories” would be more appropriate.

I am working on a post about your point Five, but if you mage a search you will find meni post written by the Local Guides who already attended to the event.

I would like to suggest you to post your ideas in our Idea Exchange section so they were revisited by the team and other Local Guides could vote for them.

I would like to remind you that as per the How do I use the Idea Exchange? article, you should include only one unique feature request in each idea post. As you have several different ideas, please create an individual post on the Idea Exchange for each of them.

You have shared fabulous ideas. But the post should be under " Ideas Exchange “, and part of the post may come under " Local stories”
