Its not about the destination, its about the journey…
For those Bikers in Bangalore, looking for a getaway ride on any given day, here are a few destinations. The destinations on this list are hills, which makes the bike ride adventurous & interesting.
Starting this list with one of my favourite spot…
Yelagiri, about 160 kms from Bangalore, takes the Hour Highway via Krishnagiri & a little before Ambur take right & we’re almost at the foot of the Yelagiri Hills. The ride up the hill is awesome with twists & turns, the climate is mostly pleasant. Just watch out when it rains, otherwise its a beautiful ride.
Next on the list is Yercaud.
Yercaud is about 225 kms from Bangalore, the ride upto Salem is purely highway feel, its from Salem we get to feel the ride as such. This is another natures beauty for riders, with the twisty turns & hair pin curves, this will be a ride to remember. The connect between Salem & the foot of the hills could be a little daunting due to the traffic, once past the city, you’re on for a sweet ride.
3rd on the list is Bangalore’s very own Nandi Hills
Nandi is just 60 kms from Bangalore, this place is known for the Sun rise & Sun set view. I’ve not been for the Sun rise, whereas have been for the Sun set view. The ride is on the Bangalore Hyderabad highway, few kms after the International Airport, a slight left takes you onto the bikers ride lane. Another bikers paradise, watch out during weekends & holidays, cause the number of visitors increase & occasionally I’ve also noticed amateur riders (squids) giving a hard time for other riders. Due to its proximity, this place is visited more often.
The next 2 destinations on this list do have a Hill as the destination, however you don’t get to do the twisty ride, since the access road to the hill top is closed.
Avalabetta Hill, which is about 100 kms from Bangalore, is a small hill, of course as I mentioned few lines above, that the access road is closed for vehicles and so bikes have to be parked down & a small trek would take you to the top. Its the photographic view which makes the ride worth it.
The last on this list is Siddara Betta
Siddara Betta is also about 100 kms from Bangalore, past Tumakuru. The highlight of this spot is the hidden caves & long trek to the top of the hill. Its also considered a religious (Spiritual) spot & so there would be a good number of devotees walking up & down the hill. crawling through the caves experience makes this ride worth it, since we don’t get the twists & turns.
I’m sure a few more places like the BR Hills can be added, however I haven’t been there as yet & so keeping it for the next list.
