This post was inspired by @MoniDi announcement about the latest LG monument challenge here.
It prompted me to search through my photos from this month as well as search out new ones around the Bay Area. Here is what I found.
- Vallejo Veterans Memorial
Visiting this one was bittersweet. It was great to see an area dedicated to our military veterans but also sad to see a homeless person taking refuge in the same spot. I started not to post this photo but it is a true real-life representation of many veterans today just trying to make it in the world.
- Anchor for USS Trepeng
This life-size monument was very moving to see. I sat there thinking about all the seashores and ports it must have seen while in use. The manpower needed to bring this up and down on the ship makes me salute all the hands that worked together to make this happen with little to no thanks.
This one made me think of my father who used to get assigned to this very site on Mare Island to work as a supervising Welder Ship fitter. I sat at the bench for a while taking it all in. Such huge vessels are made by hand to help keep us safe. This sail was brought to the exact site it was built on to pay tribute to all those who worked here before Mare Island was closed.
This place is chock full of original Benicia artifacts and historical value. A must-see for history lovers.
- Sidewalk Judge
The real-life-looking sidewalk judge pulls you in for a quick selfie or group pic. A true tribute to make you smile or sit down and people-watch.
To some things up Monuments are great places to see and photograph. Now it’s your turn. Have you been to any of these Monuments? Thinking about it? Share a picture of your favorite monument in the comments below. Until next time.
Keep smiling,
