Delaware is the second-smallest state in the USA, and because of that many people think that there isn’t much interesting about it. But I’m here to tell you that’s not the case. There are plenty of cool things to know about Delaware and tons of reasons to visit if you’re ever on the East Coast!
1. It’s the First State.
Fun Fact: Delaware was actually the first state to ratify the US Constitution, making it the first official state of the United States of America.
So for any history buffs, Delaware is a great place to visit, full of Colonial architecture and historical societies.
2. No sales tax!
This is the place to do all your shopping! If you’re coming from another US state, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that the sticker price is the only price you’ll pay for goods here. For this reason, Delaware is a pretty popular place to do major shopping, especially for those from the surrounding states of Maryland and New Jersey.
3. It’s surrounded by D.C., Baltimore, Philly, and NYC.

**Lots of great opportunities for day trips! Especially for special events like concerts and shows, any major performers coming to the East Coast are guaranteed to hit one of these major cities surrounding Delaware. NYC and D.C. are the farthest, at just over 2hrs away (or 3, if you’re in the southern-most part of Delaware). But you can get to Philadelphia or Baltimore in as little as an hour!4. It has great beaches.
Delaware has an amazing beach reputation. Two of its most notable beaches, Rehoboth and Dewey, have been ranked the top two “Superstar Beaches” in the country by the NRDC, which tests US beaches for things like contamination and pollution. They awarded both of these Delaware beaches with 5-stars in water quality!
Rehoboth beach also has a reputation for being particularly LGBT+ friendly!
So don’t overlook Delaware on your East Coast travels. There’s plenty here to offer!
