I enjoy uploading images especially 360 or spherical photos to a lot of platforms. First time I read about the “Google Treeker” I was hooked on the idea to bring that to my trails. I figured that the Treeker would not wounder into my local trails any time soon. So I have been experimenting with different setups from a Ricoh Theta S hooked up to my phone to home made contraptions with RaspberryPi (including GPS hats) and USB hookups to spherical cameras etc. My most used iteration is mostly due to easy carry: my Ricoh Theta S standalone and then sync the images with my Garmin GPS watch for geo-location. This works really good! I ave spent a lot of time on this and I really love it, it’s also fun to share the images on different platforms for others to enjoy.
After all the testing and developing I thought that the hard part was over but apparently not. As far as I can see I can only upload and link these images from the app!? There seems to be no web interface available. Even when i link the images and they are close enough together they don’t become a part of the street view, even though there is no official street view available.
Still experimenting but I would really like to find a way to bulk upload an entire day of hiking trails so everyone can look, check out and plan their hikes in street view. Any other tech crazy local guides out there? Love to hear your thoughts, ideas and problems you have over come so far…
