Good morning everyone, it’s brunch time again! And in today’s article, we’re in San Francisco, California, USA. Last year, I traveled to California for Connect Live 2019 (YASSS!) and was lucky to have a chance to spend several days in San Francisco exploring the city and having different restaurants to try. For those who’ve read my previous articles may already know how much I love brunch. Maybe not as much as three thousand (Iron man, nooooooooo!) but definitely enough. And voila, here are 3 brunch spots I’d like to share with you!
Not far from the hotel my friend and I stayed, we passed this brunch place on a weekend and saw a long line queueing outside. Well, as a local guide, what’s the first thing I did? I took out my phone and checked the place on Google Maps. Et voila! We learned that it’s a very popular brunch spot in the area so we decided to come back another day. Just like its name, Mama, it does have that warm and lovely atmosphere. It’s like the kind of home food kitchen you’d wish to have in the neighborhood.
Hollywood in San Francisco! It’s not the one in Los Angeles but is as good as it. Among all brunch I had in California, this one has the best hash brown. Yes, the BEST! What makes yummy hash brown? Perfectly golden and crispy outside and soft inside, as you can see in the photo.
Located in downtown LA and very close to Union Square, it serves all-day brunch options. They even open 24 hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Sounds amazing for night owls, right? Back to the restaurant itself, the interior of Lori’s is nostalgic and has 50s vibes, which is fun for foreigners to experience a bit of those golden years.
I love brunch! Every time I get the opportunity, I get together with my friends for brunch. I usually order egg dishes too. Two of my favorite that I tried lately are egg Benedict from Multi Culti and Bulgarian style poached eggs from Cafe 1920. I’m sharing photos from my latest brunches with you:
I love brunches! And like you and @InaS , I often order egg dishes for brunch. Also I like salad (vegetables or fruit) and some cheese. In addition, I like cappuccino and pastries.
I feel hungry after writing this article too. Back to daily working life, it’s hard for me to have brunch on a weekday but only on the weekend. Really need to find another free day to treat myself with a bountiful plate of brunch ;).
Thanks for sharing your favorite brunch plates with me! Poached eggs are defo one of my favorite egg dish styles (along with moist scrambled eggs). That’s also why I love Eggs Benedict.
The second dish(Bulgarian style) you posted looks divine! Is it bread at the bottom? How does the yogurt in the base taste like? Is it sweet or more like sour cream?
For morning drinks, I usually order juice, or Mimosa (orange juice with champagne) when I want to treat myself better, though not every brunch place provides the later one. On a chilly day, I may drink hot chocolate since I couldn’t take caffeine drinks (so no coffee nor tea). How about you? I assume it’s coffee? lol
Yes, it was divine @ChanneLing ! Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m drooling. And yes, it is some type of homemade flatbread. I would say the yogurt is more on the sour side, and it is quite a thick creamy texture.
You assume right :). It is a good amount of cappuccino, usually with coconut or almond milk.
Of course. there’d be brunch restaurants in my city, but it’s still different. What I love the most about the brunch in the states is the hash brown. I like them making it with thinly sliced potatoes and pan-fry it.
@ChanneLing I loved hash browns too! I also just love the way diners’ make potatoes with onions, so simple but tasty… also great companion to eggs! In Turkey, we have lots of egg dishes for breakfast like shakshuka (we call it menemen), or potato omelette etc. but it’s mostly a side dish for us to be eaten with bread, cheese, olives, tomatoes… I love that in the states they have a main dish that is very fulfilling and simple.
Awwwww @Cagil , I loveshakshuka! Poached eggs, tomatoes, onions and more! It’s such a perfect match with bread! Like this one I had in Montreal. (The Top 3 Brunch Places in Montreal) I could eat so much bread just with the sauce!
OMG, I feel so hungry now. I should go find if there are any brunch places in Taipei that offer it. I miss it lots!
