On 22nd May 2022, Kolkata, the city of Joy, celebrated the 250th Birth anniversary of Raja Rammohan Roy. He was a social reformer who fought against social injustices like burning of widows (সতীদাহ), sacrificing first born child in the ganges( গঙ্গাজলে সন্তান বিসর্জন) and supported women education. His works brought new life to the Bengali people. We are indebted to him for his struggles against the society and his reformations which changed a lot of people’s life.
I went to the house of this great man which now served as a museum depicting his life, on this auspicious day. You will get to know the struggles and hardships he went through to fight against these injustices. He finally succeeded in 1829.
The museum opens from Tuesday to Sunday. 11.00 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. Monday closed.
Ticket price is Rs. 10.
For camera it is Rs. 50.
Overall this is a wonderful place to learn about out history and the fight of this great man.
