Mardi Gras is a famous carnival celebrated in Louisiana. Every year locals and visitors descend on New Orleans streets to take part in flambouyant float parades across the city. About 1.4 million visitors participate in the annual festivities. The 2021 Carnival is scheduled to hold on 16th February, a day before Ash Wednesday.
This year, street float parades were banned by government officials as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic but something unique happened. On social media, someone encouraged residents not to give up but to make home floats for the carnival.
Event planners and small businesses started receiving orders on their websites and phones to create floats at various homes. Now more than 300 houses have been decorated for the popular carnival and guests can visit to see these beautiful artistic creations while observing social distancing.
